Benefits of Using Sailboat Winch Covers

A winch cover helps keep an idle winch cleaner while the boat is moored or stored. It can limit direct exposure to dust, bird droppings and sunlight on the surfaces it covers. Remove the cover before operating the winch.
Choose the right fit
Measure the greatest width, including any self-tailing arm, the base width and the overall height. Compare these measurements with the selected cover’s chart. The closure should hold the cover securely without stretching the seams; a winch model number alone does not confirm the fit.
Check the cover’s actual specification
Water resistance, breathability and UV performance depend on the fabric, seams and design of the particular cover. Do not assume every fabric cover is waterproof or will prevent condensation. Let the equipment and cover dry before prolonged storage.
Keep the manufacturer’s maintenance schedule
A cover does not replace cleaning, inspection or lubrication, and it is not a reason to extend service intervals. Follow the instructions for your exact winch and its operating conditions.
